Artwork

Artist Statement

My artwork provides an intimate perspective surrounding the subject matter of everyday life. It is within the familiar and mundane that I convey a message of the beauty of our surroundings. Our lives are filled with so much materialism and commercialism that so often we don’t see the exquisiteness that is right there in front of us. It is not hidden, we just don’t look with our eyes open. Bold colors, blurred backgrounds, along with fine detail and often enlarged subject matter, all highlight that the subject or scene is anything but plain.

Art is a way to memorialize my subject matter, capturing a fleeting moment in the journey of a person, or stage of a flower’s life, or even position of an object. While my subject matter may seem ordinary, nothing is static no matter how still things seem. Everything is temporary and change is inevitable. My artwork strives to preserve and celebrate that captured moment.

Through the exploration of appreciation in daily life, I have also been experimenting with several mediums and materials in an attempt to discover what best pairs my subject matter to it’s message. There are so many techniques and mediums available that possibilities are endless. So often I find myself using one particular material or method because of familiarity. I don’t want to settle. My objective is to continually increase my skill set to embody my subject matter and effectively spotlight their best features with an acccentuating technique/medium.
